Instead of keeping his collections in cabinets, house owner and collector Zhang Lianzhi built the house using a large number of family heirlooms, making the hundred-year-old mansion a luxury of porcelain. It was opened to the public in 2007 as a private museum and became a hot spot ever since.

Spending about eight years building the house sounds crazy, but it’s even crazier to think that it consists of over 400 million porcelain fragments, 5,000 ancient vases and 4,000 plates from different dynasties. The porcelain house carries much historic meaning and has endowed the works with a fresh and dazzling new life.

“Its design is based on my understanding of antique porcelain and traditional Chinese culture. The experience is like a child building his dream house with toy bricks,” Zhang told China Central Television (CCTV) in an interview.

In 2010, Huffington Post, a news aggregator and blog in the U.S., listed the porcelain house as one of the world’s 15 most stunning museums.
