The Maritime Silk Route Museum is located at Hailing Island Experimental Development Zone, Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province, its main exhibit the Nanhai No.1 shipwreck from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and invaluable cultural relics from the ship.
In 1987, Guangzhou Salvage Bureau and British Maritime Exploration Company found the shipwreck over 30 nautical miles away from Hailing Island. This ancient ship sailed out of China to trade with regions in Southeast Asia such as Singapore and India. The ship sank, but its structure is well-preserved for thousands of years, probably holding in it some interesting information about the Maritime Silk Road. [Image Credit: Chinanews.com]
