Sanya, a popular tourist destination on the island of Hainan,is a perfect place for vacationing. Here’s just one possible itinerary.

Day 1: Tianya Haijiao 天涯海角

Tianya Haijiao, a renowned spot for couples, is famous for its rock inscriptions, charming coastal scenery and romantic atmosphere. Every November, the International Wedding Festival is held here.

Best time to visit: All year round

Entry: 89 yuan/person

Day 2: Guanyin of Nanshan 南山海上观音

Guanyin of Nanshan in the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone (南山文化旅游区) is a huge statue of the bodhisattva Guanyin. Standing at 108m, it makes a good pilgrimage for both photographers and Buddhists.

Best time to visit: Sept. – Feb.

Day 3: Yalong Bay 亚龙湾

The moon-shaped Yalong Bay is located on the southernmost part of Hainan. Boasting a beautiful beach with soft white sand and clear azure sea, it is recognized as one of China’s best. The water temperature in the bay remains 22-25.1°C all year round, which is great for marine activies like swimming and diving.

Day 4: Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park  亚龙湾热带森林公园

Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park is a tropical forest nature reserve where a wide variety of plants flourish (up to 1500 species). The well-preserved environment also provides habitat for more than 30 species of mammals, 60 species of reptiles and 100 species of birds.

Best time to visit: Nov. – March

Day 5: Wuzhizhou Island 蜈支洲岛

China’s diving capital, Wuzhizhou Island, is often compared to the Maldives. The water here is clear with a visibility of 6-27m, through which you can see a thriving underwater eco-environment with tropical fish and coral reefs. People come here mainly for diving, but you can also try paragliding or yachting.

Day 6 : Areca Valley 槟榔谷

The Areca Valley Cultural Tourism District (槟榔谷文化旅游区) is a scenic area that includes Li Village (原住民黎村), Centennial Miao Village (百年苗家) and the surrounding tropical forest. The Areca plant, the symbol of the Li people, can be found in abundance alongside a wide variety of tropical fruits  and wild vegetables.

Best time to visit: Nov. – March

Entry: 125 yuan/person
